Music for a Sweet 15 Celebration

By Esmerelda Villalobos

A Quinceanera is a celebration of a young girl's fifteenth birthday. Many Latin American girls celebrate this event with a big fiesta that rivals the other parties that they celebrated for her previous birthdays. This is a party that marks the young girl's shift from a child to an adult.

Some families celebrate the occasion as you would a grand wedding. Others prefer the more traditional ways. You can have a simple or elegant Quinceanera depending on your traditions.

There are various Quinceanera's dances but the main focus of this dance celebration is the celebrant's first ever dance. Initiated by a pair dance with her father, the celebrant is then introduced to the crowd with the beat of a beautiful waltz. During the pair's dance, young boys are also lined up waiting for their next dance with the celebrant.

To further spark the Quineceneara celebration, families of the celebrant can hire a band to provide the music all throughout the event. Of course, after the traditional waltz is fulfilled, the band can also play more modern and up to date songs and dances to meet the demands of the young people who are mostly present in such occasions.

It is important that the family choose the band carefully. If you want to have a setting of formality it is a wise choice.

When choosing the band, ask a lot of questions. Some bands have limitations on playing the latest fad in music, so it can be a great challenge for the band. In this case, pre-programmed songs and dances are a good option to make sure the event will go smoothly. Pick the best band and make sure you communicate your plans to the band so you can avoid any mishaps.

Another consideration is hiring a DJ to play more modern music. Understand that the party is all about the young girl's introduction to society as an adult. The percentage of younger people is higher. Therefore, a choice for most Quinceanera celebrations is a DJ who can play newer types of music. Since the Quinceanera can sometimes be a long celebration, having a professional DJ to help maintain the smooth flow of events is a great help.

Music is one of the main aspects of your event. Hiring a band or DJ depends on your needs and preferences. You can hire both to create balance. Decide who will play first and what type of music to avoid any confusion.

Prepare a list of songs you would like to be played. Work out a detailed program along with the sequence and timing of the music. Make sure everyone is in sync by discussing all details with the band and/ or DJ. So there won't be any mishaps. - 15478
