SEO and Backlink Building

By Justin Harrison

Ranking well in the search engines for highly competitive phrases takes more than just on-page SEO tactics. It takes backlinks, and lots of them.

A backlink is the technical term for linking a website or blog link to another site. Among all options that a website owner can use to make his website more effective, a small number of top quality backlinks can be far more productive than other tools.

When evaluating links for popularity, search engines like Google, MSN, and Yahoo, look at how often your site is linked to by an outside person. This link is considered a vote for the information you have provided on your site. By linking, it show that someone valued the information on your site. The more links you have, the better your site must be.

Anchor text is more important than how many sites have links to your site. Anchor text is what people see when they click on a link. Search engines will see the anchor text as well. This is one way they know what your site has to offer.

This is the reason why it is desirable to have main keywords incorporated within the anchor text of incoming links. Having understood the importance of backlinks, we will now explore ways to get them.

The best way to get links to your site is to offer content that is high-quality and unique. Try being controversial or different. This will make people link to your site.

Try to make it really easy for other websites to link to your website. Try setting up a "link to us" page to simplify the process. Also, make sure that you include keywords in the anchor text.

All you have to do is write a few articles and request that they be listed in article directories. Webmasters will select them to be posted on other sites with a link to your site. With just one article you can get many links back to your site. Or you can directly contact sites that fall into your field and ask if you can be a regular contributor. - 15478
