How to Control your Search Engine Rankings

By Brent Sweet

There are several strategies that can be used to get to the top of Google. It is actually much easier that many would believe. It is simply amazing how many sites are ranked where they are by luck, very few are ranked for keywords because they are trying to be. The purpose of this writing is to give you things you can work on to directly affect your rankings.

First of all I want to say there are many things you can do, that are completely within your control to move yourself up. If anybody here has ever studied six sigma or anything like that you will know that you really only need to focus on things in your control. It is ultimately a waste of time to focus on things out of your control.

So what is in your control?

- Your title tag " The most important part. I suggest picking 5 keyword phrases that you want to rank high for and then arranging them in a manner that you dont repeat words, but that it is readable.

- Body text is the next factor. Use all the keywords you want to rank for in your body. I wouldn't say that it is important to have them in bold or header tags. These really are not the difference between not ranking and ranking, these are things you look at when trying to go from position one to position two.

- The actual filenames on your site. Don't put a session id or other things on your URLS, this makes the search engines not be able to find pages that were there before.

- Your links. The sites that link to you are within your control for the most part. One way is link bait. If you can design something that people will link to then your rankings will improve. The downside is you need to create something nobody else has. I don't do that well. I use article submission, this gives me full control over how people link to me.

Thats 4 things you have control over. Any time you want to improve your rankings start with these 4 things. This is how you control your search engine rankings - 15478
